Leticia Barcena

Research Associate
Centre for Evidence in Transplantation

Miss Barcena graduated as veterinary surgeon in Madrid in 1995 and after qualifying moved to the UK where she worked for five years as veterinary surgeon (small animals only) in different surgeries around the UK.

As part of her training she was interested in working on public health issues and had the opportunity to work in the Department of Health holding different posts within the Public Health Division. As a result of her experience in the Department of Health she developed a keen interest in information science and evidence-based information.

Miss Barcena undertook further training in this field and joined the National Collaborating Centre for Acute Care (NCC-AC) as a Research Associate developing clinical guidelines for the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE). After a year at the NCC-AC she had the opportunity to join the CET. Leticia has been responsible primarily for establishing the electronic transplant library of all randomised trials in organ transplantation. After 3 years in the CET she has just moved to a new position in a Clinical Trials Unit at Imperial but will remain as a consultant to the CET.
