Frank J.M.F. Dor, MD PhD FEBS(hon), studied Medicine in Antwerp (Belgium) and at the Erasmus University Rotterdam (Netherlands). He obtained his medical degree cum laude. He was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Transplantation Biology Research Center of the Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA, where he conducted translational research in the field of transplant immunology with Prof. Dr. David Cooper and Prof. Dr. David Sachs. This work resulted in his PhD thesis entitled “Investigations relating to the induction of immunological tolerance through spleen transplantation in miniature swine” that he defended cum laude. He was trained as a surgeon and transplant surgeon at the Erasmus MC Rotterdam, The Netherlands. He worked as a Consultant Transplant Surgeon and Surgical Director of Kidney Transplantation at Erasmus MC, Rotterdam, the largest live donor kidney transplant programme in Europe, and one of the leading centres in the world, until January 2016. In January 2016, he joined the West London Renal and Transplant Centre at Hammersmith Hospital, Imperial College London, UK, as Consultant Transplant Surgeon and Lead of the Live Donor Programme, Peritoneal Dialysis, and Research. He is now Head of Transplantation at the Hammersmith Hospital.

He is an active clinical scientist (live kidney donation, evidence based medicine, KTx, and peritoneal dialysis), and translational scientist (immunomodulation, ischemic conditioning, and ischemia-reperfusion injury).

Frank Dor also a passionate educationalist. He currently serves as Chair of the education committee of the European Society for Organ Transplantation (ESOT) and Initiator and Director of the Live Donor Nephrectomy Course (LIDO course), Board Member of the European Board of Surgeons (Transplant Surgery) responsible for the European Board Exams, Chair of the European Chapter of the Peritoneal Dialysis University for Surgeons, and a senior clinical lecturer at Imperial College London.

Frank is a Council Member of ESOT, Board Member of the European Board of Transplant Surgery, Member of the European Surgical Association (ESA), was Council member and president-elect of the Dutch Transplant Society, Secretary General of the European Society for Surgical Research (ESSR), and has served in the Scientific Advisory Board of the Dutch Kidney Foundation.

Currently, he is an associate editor of European Surgical Research, Social Media Editor of Transplantation, and editorial board member of > 10 scientific journals.
