Neil Russell MRCS

Neil is currently a Clinical Research Fellow working jointly at The Department of Surgery in Cambridge and at the Centre for Evidence in Transplantation.

He qualified as a Doctor in 2001 having gained a BSc(Hons) in Medical Science from St. Andrews University before studying Clinical Medicine at Cambridge University where he was a member of Emmanuel College . He did his pre-registration house officer year in Cambridge before going to Nottingham to do his Basic Surgical Training. In March 2005 he gained his MRCS, and in August 2005 he returned to Cambridge to take up his current position of Clinical Research Fellow in Transplantation.

His current project is a Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Calcineurin Inhibitor reduced/free immunosuppression in Solid Organ Transplantation. The aim is for his work to be submitted for a MChir.

Neil has a training number for general surgery in the Eastern Deanery, and has started his specialist training in General surgery, with a view to sub-specialising in Transplantation, in October of 2008.

Outside medicine Neil's main interests are in Sport. He is a keen golfer and footballer. He played University First team football in St. Andrews and gained a Cambridge Blue in Golf in 2000.
