Simon is currently an Associate Professor and Honorary Consultant Transplant Surgeon at the Oxford Transplant Centre. Following Peter Morris' retirement from the CET in July 2016, he has now taken on the role of Director..
During his time at the CET, Simon has performed a number of systematic reviews relating to the optimisation of immunosuppressive therapies. These include therapeutic drug monitoring and steroid sparing regimens. A number of these reviews have been published in peer reviewed journals and presented as national and international conferences. His work on steroid sparing regimens won the 2009 clinical Medawar medal from the British Transplant Society. The work performed during his time as a research fellow was accepted as a thesis for the degree of Master of Surgery at Cambridge University, and awarded the MChir distinction prize and Sir Walter-Langdon Brown prize.
Simon is now involved in a number of review projects with the CET, supervising both academic foundation trainees and DPhil candidates. His university role as a Senior Research Fellow is affording him more time to pursue an interest in clinical trial design, and he is coinvestigator in a number of clinical trials including COPE, SONAR, PLUS, NKP-1 and TARGET.
Outside of medicine Simon has an interest in technology and computers, with considerable experience in web design.
