CET Team awarded NIHR grant to evaluate the use of AI-driven Clinical Decision Support in Kidney Transplantation

Researchers from the CET, led by Simon Knight, have been awarded a 5-year National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Program Grant for Applied Research (PGfAR) to investigate the role of AI-driven clinical decision support tools to aid clinical decision making for kidney transplant offers. The programme of work consists of 5 work packages, including model development and validation, regulatory application, clinical evaluation, human factors evaluation and health economic analysis. The project is a collaboration between researchers at the University of Oxford, University of Aberdeen, University of Nottingham and University of Newcastle.
The goal of the project is to develop and evaluate a web-based clinical decision aid that is fair, explainable and effective, with potential to reduce the disparities seen in organ acceptance behaviour between clinicians and centres. The research has the potential to improve organ utilisation and reduce disparities in access to transplantation.
