Marked differences in kidney graft survival between Europe and the USA

This very interesting study is in publication in Transplantation. It is an analysis of deceased donor kidney graft survival in Europe and the USA based on CTS data and UNOS data comparing overall and age specific 1, 5 and 10 year graft survival for Europeans and white, African and Hispanic Americans over a 3 year period 2005-2008. Although there is a similar one year graft survival of around 90% in both Europe and USA, at 5 and 10 years European graft survival is markedly superior to that in the USA  in all three categories of recipients. This should lead to studies to explain what factors influence this much poorer long term graft survival in the USA compared to Europe.
